Hawkesbury Heat. 18 Jan 1896. Yesterday (Sunday) the shade temperature at this Observatory reached 116.8 degrees, or the same as that attained on the 6th instant. To-day, however, the maximum recorded was 118.8 degs, the highest experienced here since 1862. 118 deg F = 48.2 Celsius

THE WEATHER. 03 Feb 1855 -During the last few days the weather has been as hot and as distressing as ever I remember in the colony. The thermometer during both days indicated 115 degrees in the shade. 46 deg Celsius.

EXTREME HEAT. 25 Jan 1896. So unexampled a spell of extreme temperature has caused much sickness and many deaths. In the Bourke district 35 deaths have occurred which are directly ascribable to heat. Persons drop down in the street and die without regaining consciousness.

WORLD GROWING WARMER. 30 Sept 1922. Even during the comparatively short space of time that the Antarctic has been visited by man the ice has retired some 40 miles.

NORTH POLE MELTING. MANY GLACIERS VANISHED. 07 April 1923. Is the North Pole going to melt entirely? Are the Arctic regions warming up, with the prospect of a great climatic change in that part of the world?

MELTING ICE CAP DANGER. 31 May 1947. If the Antarctic ice regions and the major Greenland ice cap should reduce at the same rate as they are at present melting, oceanic surfaces would rise in catastrophic proportions, and people living in the lowlands along the shores would be inundated.

THE TEMPERATURE. 28 Jan 1896. “On one day of twenty-four hours in 1892, when the thermometers ranged between 99 and 102 degrees, there were 223 deaths recorded, and in three days at that time 600 people died in New York alone.” Obviously bad temperature readings are the cause of these deaths.
