MARYBOROUGH, January 23.
Every day heart-rending accounts reach Maryborough regarding the effects of the drought, and there is no doubt that the Wide Bay and Burnett district is suffering as acutely as any of the drought stricken areas. Yesterday it was stated that in a number of cases there were individual losses amounting to £2,000 each. One stock owner had his herd reduced from 400 to 28. In quite a number of instances dairymen have had their herds seriously depleted, and some have lost all.
Meanwhile the farmers are paying high prices for fodder to keep the stock alive; but, despite all attention, they are chagrined to see their herds dwindling away and the fodder bill steadily mounting. Ruin is staring them in the face. It is a sad picture.
