MELBOURNE. March 10. -With phenomenal weather conditions over almost the whole of southern Australia, Victoria simmered today in temperature exceeding 100deg.
Wilson’s Promontory, with a maximum temperature of only 65deg., was the only part of Victoria today where the maximum was below the century.
The highest recording n Melbourne was 102.5deg. and Victoria’s hottest town was Mildura, which established an all-time March record of 109deg.
There is no change within sight and State-wide bushfire warnings were issued tonight by the Weather Bureau.
Many fires were reported today and, if conditions continue, there may, with a hot northerly wind, be serious danger tomorrow in several areas.
