Yesterday the shade temperatures were; –Observatory, 96.1 degrees; Perth Gardens, 98.4.
The shade temperatures to-day were:–Perth Gardens, 94.7; Perth Observatory, 92.7. To-day was the fifth successive day during which the thermometer reached 90 degrees and over.
The readings were:–90 degrees, 92 degrees, 96 degrees, 98 degrees, and 95 degrees.
During the heat-wave, which extended from March 9 to March 14 last year, the readings were: — 95 degrees; 98 degrees, 96 degrees, 99 degrees, 90 degrees, and 95 degrees.
In 1908 there was only one day on which the maximum reading touched 90 degrees.
In 1906 some high temperatures were recorded. The first week the reading ranged from 87 degrees on the first to 103 degrees on the sixth and seventh days.
Comparing Sunday’s maximum of 98.4 with those of other capitals, Perth comes out a long way ahead.
Brisbane registered 89 degrees, Sydney 73 degrees, Adelaide 70 degrees, and Melbourne and Hobart 65 degrees each.
