MAXIMUM ON SATURDAY, 98 DEGREES.
Instead of rain that was forecasted and devoutly hoped for, Victoria has passed through a trying spell this month.
Crops in this portion of Gippsland were in satisfactory condition but the hot winds experienced have left the traces of sad ravages on the green fields.
The heat record for October has been easily established, the reading on Saturday being 98 degrees,  five degrees above the previous record of 93 in 1912.
