OCTOBER COLD NEAR RECORD (1946, October 31). News (Adelaide, SA : 1923 – 1954), p. 3. Retrieved October 31, 2019, from https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/128369277?searchTerm=october%20cold&searchLimits=#

This month Adelaide has had the second coldest October night on record.
The Government Meteorologist: (Mr. Bromley) said today that the mean minimum temperature was only 46.5 deg.
The record low was 46.1 deg.. recorded in 1905. Records tad been kept for 90 years.
The average mean minimum was 51.4 deg.
Statistics of day temperatures for the month were not yet complete, but it was certain that the mean of the maximum and minimum temperatures would be at least the third coldest on record.
It was possible that the mean might be the second lowest, but as today was becoming warmer this was uncertain.
Previous low records for the mean of night and day temperatures were 55.2 deg. in 1905 and 58.2 deg. in 1932.
There was no possibility of the mean maximum temperature breaking records.
Several previous Octobers had had colder day temperatures. In 1905 the mean maximum was only 64.3.
Today’s warm weather would probably bring this month’s mean maximum up to about 70 deg.
Adelaide had 108 points of rain this month the average is 169 points.
Rain for the year so far is 57 points above normal.
Mount Barker 34 deg. was the coldest spot in the State last night.
