MELBOURNE, Wednesday.
Red dust storms raged throughout! the north-western part of the State to-day with temperatures reaching the 100 mark.
At Sea Lake it was just possible to see across the main street at noon.
Bushfires were reported from the south-western part of the State and a lucky change of wind saved Bridgewater, a small town near the South Australian border.
Fires swept down on the township, driven by a gale. Volunteer fighters were sent from Portland and with the benefit of a change in the direction of the wind were able to save the town.
