Tim Blair, &#8220;The UN should stick to its core business of being wrong.&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailytelegraph.com.au\/blogs\/tim-blair\/the-uns-missing-50-million-refugees\/news-story\/f1758105452c024d197b21508c326d6e\">https:\/\/www.dailytelegraph.com.au\/blogs\/tim-blair\/the-uns-missing-50-million-refugees\/news-story\/f1758105452c024d197b21508c326d6e<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"tg-tlc-storymeta_author\"><b>Tim Blair<\/b>, The Daily Telegraph<\/div>\n<p><time class=\"tg-tlc-storymeta_timestamp\" datetime=\"2020-01-23T05:42:48.000Z\">January 23, 2020 4:42pm<\/time><\/p>\n<div class=\"tg-tlc-storybody_intro\">\n<p>In 2005, the United Nations predicted the world would be swarming with 50 million climate change refugees by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2005\/oct\/12\/naturaldisasters.climatechange1\">2010<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Then 2010 arrived, but many nations the UN claimed were most likely to be the source of climate refugees had all <a href=\"https:\/\/wattsupwiththat.com\/2011\/04\/15\/the-un-disappears-50-million-climate-refugees-then-botches-the-disappearing-attempt\/\">increased their populations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So in 2011 the UN pushed the date back, declaring that 50 million climate refugees would be upon us by <a href=\"https:\/\/act-adapt.org\/un-projects-50-million-environmental-refugees-by-2020\/\">2020<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Well, 2020 is here but again the refugees are not.<\/p>\n<p>Evidently annoyed by the stubborn refusal of these victims to appear, the UN is now attempting a different strategy.<\/p>\n<p>If climate refugees won\u2019t show up in sufficient numbers, the UN will simply invent them.<\/p>\n<p>That seems to be the thinking behind a UN move that would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailytelegraph.com.au\/technology\/un-issues-ruling-about-pacific-climate-change-refugees\/news-story\/da3abc5ad86f454ae31834561f24a3dd\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" data-tgev-order=\"da3abc5ad86f454ae31834561f24a3dd\" data-tgev-label=\"technology\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\">compel Australia and other nations to accept as climate change refugees<\/a> people whose home countries are deemed to be under environmental threat.<\/p>\n<p>If this move is enforced, it would create an instant country-shopping opportunity for citizen of qualifying nations.<\/p>\n<p>Australia would be a prime choice.
