Since the first visit to the ice cap of the south<\/span> pole<\/span> was made, some fifty years ago, there has been a steady recession of the belt of some thirty miles, and it is argued that in the course of<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

time it will be possible to make approach to the pole<\/span> itself and that the land in that vicinity may even become inhabited.<\/div>\n
