This Christmas season has already furnished us with two weather records, and now we have to announce a third.<\/div>\n
Christmas Day won the hottest ever experienced in Victoria, and the fall of rain from Thursday evening has been the heaviest over known.<\/div>\n
Now we learn that last night was the coldest in the month of December in the memory of the<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

oldest residents in the Diggers Rest district\u2014 so bitterly cold, indeed, that large numbers of sheep and cattle perished from exposure to the low temperature.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A well-known and reliable resident of the district to-day forwarded to us a memorandum to the effect that this morning sheep and cattle were lying dead in all directions, having perished<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

from the intense cold of last night. Mr John Higgins, whose farm is near the township of Diggers\u2019 Rest, lost seven head of dairy cattle.<\/div>\n
We have no information as to the lowest temperature during the night on the plains, but the<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

fact of stock dying in this way is sufficient evidence that the night at Diggers Rest must have been the coldest ever experienced so near Melbourne in December.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
