Bourke and Byrock, he admitted, often broke the record for \u201cnifter\u201d temperatures.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">He had seen crows and eaglehawks fall lifeless from the trees when the thermometer reached 118 in those places.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">He had seen icecream \u201crun\u201d liquid when extracted from the drum.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">He had heard old hands say that Bourke might not be much of a place to live in, but it could give \u2019em all a start when it came to a matter of gloating over records.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">But for continuity, he added, Coonamble takes the bun. Coonamble was hot quite so fast.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">It was content to ascend to about the 110 level\u2014 and remain there for a week or 10 days. Bourke, with its record one-day stunt, dropped down from 120 to 106, and 108. \u201cThat\u2019s heat with a double vengeance,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">\u201cBourke leads the way for a day, or two. But if you ask me where one would find a good old con-<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">sistent plugger, without pretensions to spasmodic splashes.
