But an exceptionally bad season resulted in the spread of potato blight, and the crop was a total loss.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Then followed <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"2118\" data-y=\"5460\" data-w=\"127\" data-h=\"34\">famine<\/span> and pestilence caused by the mould and decaying matter from the ruin crops.
