The maximum shade heat recorded at the post office to-day by one of the Government instruments was 123 deg. There was no wind.<\/div>\n
The forecast is “Continued great heat inland, with northerly winds.”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

This temperature, unless accompanied by high winds, will not damage the crops of fruit. Last year at the beginning of January the heat reached 122\u00bd deg., with heavy north winds, and reduced the crop all round 60 per cent.<\/div>\n
There is almost certain to be a great shortage of labour for the fruit harvest. The canning factories are working long hours, and it is just possible that Swallow & Ariell will send labour from their Port Melbourne factory.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
