MILDURA,<\/span> <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"1106\" data-y=\"526\" data-w=\"149\" data-h=\"52\">123<\/span> <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"1255\" data-y=\"526\" data-w=\"149\" data-h=\"52\">DEGREES.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"zone onPage readMode\" data-page-id=\"342943\" data-x=\"869\" data-y=\"574\" data-w=\"620\" data-h=\"3960\" data-rotation=\"-1\">\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Yesterday was the continuation of a period of fierce heat, of which Mr. Baracchi will not yet prophesy the end.<\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.realclimaterecords.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/mildura124.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1028\" src=\"http:\/\/www.realclimaterecords.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/mildura124-300x198.jpg\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.realclimaterecords.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/mildura124-300x198.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.realclimaterecords.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/mildura124-768x507.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.realclimaterecords.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/mildura124.jpg 769w\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">People in Melbourne had to suffer a temperature which under the city verandahs exceeded<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">100deg., and in the shade at the Observatory reached 97.1deg. during portion of the after-<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">noon. Inland, all over the north and north- west, the temperatures ran over 100deg. and 110de., and in the north-west they reached their maximum, ranging from 110deg. upwards. In the prohibition settlement of<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"read\"><span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"887\" data-y=\"955\" data-w=\"97\" data-h=\"30\">Mildura,<\/span> a new <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"1178\" data-y=\"955\" data-w=\"97\" data-h=\"30\">record<\/span> for Victoria\u2014123deg. \u2014was established. The sun temperatures were also very high. For over half an hour a sun temperature of 160.5deg. was maintained at the Observatory.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">Some of the highest country readings are given below. It will be seen that the North- western district had the worst of if\u2014Mildura, 123deg.; Swan Hill, 118deg.; Donald, 117deg.; Beulah, 116deg.; Pyramid Hill and Hopetoun, 115deg.; and Charlton, 114deg., being (at the time of writing) the highest <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"884\" data-y=\"1692\" data-w=\"73\" data-h=\"30\">records<\/span> received from any part of the state.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">The blaze of heat has constituted a new <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"901\" data-y=\"1747\" data-w=\"81\" data-h=\"29\">\u201crecord,\u201d<\/span> though it has not taken away from any town the pride of being the hottest place in Victoria. <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"1135\" data-y=\"1800\" data-w=\"84\" data-h=\"31\">\u201cMildura,<\/span> <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"1219\" data-y=\"1800\" data-w=\"84\" data-h=\"31\">123<\/span> deg., on January 5, 1906,\u201d is now the highest shade reading that an official <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"1271\" data-y=\"1853\" data-w=\"97\" data-h=\"30\">Victorian<\/span> thermometer has ever registered. Previously the <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"883\" data-y=\"1909\" data-w=\"84\" data-h=\"31\">record<\/span> was <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"1051\" data-y=\"1909\" data-w=\"84\" data-h=\"31\">\u201cMildura<\/span> 121\u00bd deg., on January 30, 1904.\u201d The <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"1084\" data-y=\"1933\" data-w=\"65\" data-h=\"35\">record<\/span> of <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"1214\" data-y=\"1933\" data-w=\"65\" data-h=\"35\">123<\/span> deg., at <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"1409\" data-y=\"1933\" data-w=\"65\" data-h=\"35\">Mildura<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">was notified to the Observatory \u201cThe Argus\u201d correspondent notified 122\u00bd deg. Officers at the Observatory rely on the <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"1394\" data-y=\"2015\" data-w=\"73\" data-h=\"30\">records <\/span>reported to them. The thermometers are supplied from the Observatory, and are re- liable instruments, and the screens and other devices by means of which the \u201cshade\u201d is produced are the same as those in use at the Observatory itself.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">The outlook for to-day is worse that the memory of yesterday.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">Yesterday was hot; to-day will probably be hotter. Yesterday was calm; for to-day Mr. Baracchi promises winds \u201clight and variable at first; northerly to-morrow and freshening.\u201d The northerly<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">winds will be hot ones. The forecast in South Australia \u2014 which yesterday had a shade reading of 113deg., as against 112 deg. the day before\u2014is that the weather will be \u201cvery hot, with northerly winds, followed by a gradual cool change, reaching Adelaide on Saturday evening.\u201d This welcome change will be brought about by a monsoonal trough now lying to the westward. Melbourne, however, need not hope to feel the change until some time after Adelaide, and<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">cannot be certain of receiving it even on Sunday.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">Till then Melbourne may gasp in the \u201cfreshening wind\u201d from the north.
