On December 24 it reached 103.4, on December 30 101.4, and yesterday 102.8 degrees. Yesterday was more remarkable for the big range of temperatures, for between 1.45 p.m. and 8 p.m. there was a fall of 35.7 degrees.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"line editMode\">\n<div class=\"read\">A hot north-westerly to westerly wind during the morning served to intensify otherwise<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line editMode\">\n<div class=\"read\">sultry conditions, but its drying influence was very marked. Between 9 and 10 o\u2019clock, while<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line editMode\">\n<div class=\"read\">the north-wester effected a rise from 88.9 to 90.4 degrees, the humidity was lowered from<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line editMode\">\n<div class=\"read\">60 to 34 per cent. The <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"1991\" data-y=\"2638\" data-w=\"64\" data-h=\"23\">heat<\/span> gained rapidly <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"2306\" data-y=\"2637\" data-w=\"25\" data-h=\"22\">in <\/span>intensity until 1.45 p.m., when, with the humidity down to 21 per cent., a reading of 102.8 was recorded.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">Soon thereafter cooler conditions were experienced. Within half an hour the city and suburbs were swathed <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"2307\" data-y=\"2784\" data-w=\"25\" data-h=\"23\">in <\/span>clouds of dust. The discomfort of the <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"2271\" data-y=\"2814\" data-w=\"64\" data-h=\"23\">heat <\/span>was exceeded <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"1835\" data-y=\"2844\" data-w=\"27\" data-h=\"22\">in<\/span> most suburbs by dust storms, which were only relieved an hour later by refreshing rain squalls.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">At some places hail accompanied the rain, and at the Coast Hospital a motor car belonging to the Eastern Suburbs Ambulance had its radiator damaged by large hail.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EXTREME HEAT.
