The temperature has now risen over 85 deg. on seven consecutive days, which constitutes a record warm spell for October.<br \/>\nHigh temperatures were also recorded on Tuesday over the greater portion of Western Australia, the maximum at Esperance reaching 102 deg. and Southern Cross 101deg.<br \/>\nThe Meteorological Department reported last night:\u2014<br \/>\nDuring the 24 hours ended 8.30 a.m., with the exception of light and scattered thunder showers south of the tropics and Western Australia, and a few light showers on the north coast of New South Wales, the only rain to report occurred in Queensland, where light to moderate amounts were gauged at scattered places over coastal districts and central division. The falls, however, were heavy at a few inland places, Winton registering 1.37. This morning\u2019s weather chart shows that although a large \u201chigh\u201d still covers this and the eastern States it is losing energy and drifting eastward.<br \/>\nThe pressure in South Australia has diminished considerably today under the advance of the low noted this morning centered to the south of Albany.<br \/>\nThe further eastward movement of this depression to-morrow will be attended by northerly wind and warm to hot weather in this State.<br \/>\nThe anticyclone at present overlapping the west coast of the continent, however, should bring cooler conditions by Friday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>October 8).\u00a0The Register (Adelaide, SA : 1901 &#8211; 1929), p. 4.
