On three days of last week the city was oppressed by\u00a0<span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"2136\" data-y=\"1978\" data-w=\"131\" data-h=\"36\">record<\/span>\u00a0high temperatures for November, the\u00a0<span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"2137\" data-y=\"2010\" data-w=\"131\" data-h=\"46\">heat<\/span>\u00a0being accentuated by scorching winds laden with smoke from bushfires.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">At 9 a.m. on Friday of last week the temperature was 93 degrees, the highest November registration for that hour in the morning since weather data has been compiled in Sydney. At 12.50 p.m. the reading was 99.8 degrees, the highest November registration since 1923.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Water consumption has been in accord with the weather. For the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. on Friday, the metropolitan consumption was 141,831,000 gallons. Water shortages were reported from several suburbs.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Very trying conditions have been experienced, also, in the country. On that oppressive Friday terrific\u00a0<span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"2255\" data-y=\"2764\" data-w=\"126\" data-h=\"35\">heat<\/span>\u00a0was experienced in the central, northern, and eastern districts, the highest temperature reported to the Weather Bureau being 109 degrees, at Bourke, Walgett reported<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">105 degrees, Wollongong 102, and Wilcannia, Dubbo, and Forbes 101.
