MELBOURNE, Dec. 6 As Melbourne continues to swelter in a record December heat-wave, shops are making record sales of electric fans. refrigerators, men\u2019s summer suits, and even panama hats.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Hundreds of people slept on bayside beaches last night when the temperature was never below 75 degrees the hottest December night for nine years.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Melbourne\u2019s noon temperature to-day was 98 degrees. This was followed by a cool change<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
which the Weather Bureau warned was only temporary.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Bush fire warnings have been issued and country fire brigades are on the alert. At Boort, inland Victoria, the temperature at 2.30 was 104 and still rising.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A state of emergency exists in the city water supply, as consumption soars during the heat wave. The Board of Works warned to-day that thousands of people would be without water if three suburban water storages fell much lower.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

North Essendon reservoir supplies failed for three hours last night for the first time in history and again to-day.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

House-holders In the western suburbs were without water, and fire hydrants had no water<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

pressure. All Melbourne house-holders have been warned to stop watering their gardens im-<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

SYDNEY. Dec. 6. Sixteen people collapsed because of the heat in Sydney to-day.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Fifteen were treated in hospital, and then were allowed to go home. Women in shops crowded<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

with Christmas buyers also were affected, but revived when helped outside.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The highest temperature was 83.8 degrees at 12.30 p.m. the lowest was 62.8 at 5.10 a.m., with 90 per cent. humidity.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
