It was an aged-crone,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
That with a great bemoan,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
And tear drops standing in her bleary eyes,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

At the fire side sat shivering,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\n
Her trembling limbs all quivering,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
While from her bosom depths there rose sad sighs.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
Ah, me! it was a sight,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
To startle with a fright,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\n
A man whose nerves are anything but strong;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\n
I therefore cried, ” Alas!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
This is a pretty pass;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\n
For this here world this woman won’t be long”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\n
Startled at the sound,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\n
She turned her head around<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\n
Oh! what a ghastly face was then disclosed.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\n
Her eyes that were so red,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\n
Were rolling in her head,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\n
And many a crow’s foot under them reposed.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
Quickly she spoke to me<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Which almost made me flee;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

So horribly she grinned from ear to ear,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

And said in grating tones,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

That shook her poor old bones,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
” I never see such, weather at this time of the year.”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

All my teeth are aching,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

With chattering and quaking,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
While all down my backbone the cold wind howls.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The very cows do get<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\n
Out of the cold and wet;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
The pigs are almost frozen, and the fowls.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
I really do believe,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
And clearly can perceive,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\n
Out of one summer this is quite a diddle.”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Thus she would have gone on,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

For she had a long tongue,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
