November was a month of strange weather contrasts, and the result was a mean maximum temperature 19 degrees below normal, in spite of the extreme heat of the last few days.
The November normal is 82.4 degrees.
This year it was only 80.5 degrees. This is explained by the abnormally cool conditions experienced during the first two-thirds of the month.
From November 1 to 19 the average maximum was only 77.8 degrees. On November 20 the
heat wave developed, and from then until November 29. it was 86.0.
In spite of this high figure, the mean for the month was still below normal.
The same thing happened with the mean minimum temperature, which was slightly below normal.
From November 1 to 19. the average minimum was only 60.8 degrees, but during the nine-day
heat wave it rose to 69.1. The mean minimum for the month was 63.9, compared with a normal 64.2. The night mean minimum for the month is the lowest experienced since 1935, when it
was 63.2.
