At Thargomindah yesterday the temperature was113 degrees, being the 27th consecutive day on which the century mark was passed. Charleville recorded 106degrees.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">NEW SOUTH WALES EFFECTS SYDNEY,<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">Friday Twelve deaths have occurred in New South Wales in the last two days as a result of the heat wave. One of the victims was Leo. Sheehan, manager of Mooculta Station, who was found dead about 150 yards from the station yesterday. He must have endured agony before he died. While returning to the homestead his car broke down and he began to walk back in the terrific heat. A police tracker disclosed to-day that every fifty yards he collapsed in the dust and eventually crawled till death left him on his back with his face to the glaring sun.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Serious bush fires have broken out in many parts of the State, the worst being in the Bega, Eden, Pericoe and Towamba districts. The roar of the conflagration was heard eight miles away as the flames swept through the Pericoe and Towamba districts.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Farmers liberated their stock in an attempt to save them, but many cattle and sheep perished. The homes<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">of many families have been wiped out.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">The hot weather in western parts of the State has caused an alarming mortality amongst native birds.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"zone onPage readMode\" data-page-id=\"10334668\" data-x=\"2544\" data-y=\"2815\" data-w=\"795\" data-h=\"3422\" data-rotation=\"-1\">\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">HAZE OVER AUSTRALIA.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">BRISBANE, Friday Night<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Bush fires and dust storms, during the past week have thrown a pall of dense smoke and gritty haze almost, entirely, over the whole of Australia.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">To-day the sun was behind a curtain that extends all over South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">and the southern half of Queensland and miles out to sea.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Nothing could be more Indicative of the appalling state of the continent which is plunged in one of the<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">most devastating droughts on record.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">In Queensland, heavy rains are continuing along the coast north from Cardwell with light showers<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">southward as far as Mackay, but elsewhere in the State, the heat wave continues with the thermometer in<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">many centres well over the century mark.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Two elderly women died from the effects of heat at Thargomindah where the temperature has exceeded<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">the century for the last four weeks.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">EIGHT MORE DEATHS SYDNEY, Friday Night<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Eight more deaths, attributed to the heat, were reported to-day from country towns.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Before 10 a.m. to-day, Bourke, with 105 degrees, recorded its 28th consecutive century, and Ivanhoe,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">with 112 degrees at 10.30 a.m., pressed its unofficial claim to a State record of thirty in a row. Many peo<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">ple are being treated in country hospitals for heat.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">114 DEGREES IN MELBOURNE<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">MELBOURNE, Friday Night<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">With a reading of 114.1 degrees at 12.50 p.m. to-day&#8217;s temperature passed the all-time.record of 112.5<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">established on Tuesday. Country temperatures at 9 a.m. were nearly all in the vicinity of 100 degrees.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">There were a few well over the century mark.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">COLLAPSED AT CONGRESS<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">CANBERRA, Friday Night<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Canberra experienced another trying day to-day, the thermometer reaching 107.5 degrees. Radcliffe. author of &#8220;Flying Fox and Drifting Sand,&#8221; who collapsed when<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">delivering a lecture on soil erosion at the Science Congress. His conditionis not serious.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">ADELAIDE SWELTERS, TOO<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">ADELAIDE, Friday Night<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Adelaide entered upon the eighth day of its record heat wave to-day. At 2.30 p.m. the thermometer show<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">ed 114 degrees with no immediate hope of relief. The heat has caused the death of many elderly people<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">during the week.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Holdens, motor body builders, and a number of other large establishments, are closing down until the<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">heat abates.
