The temperature has now risen over 85 deg. on seven consecutive days, which constitutes a record warm spell for <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"3413\" data-y=\"864\" data-w=\"114\" data-h=\"43\">October.<\/span> High temperatures were also recorded on Tuesday over the greater portion of Western Australia, the maximum at Esperance reaching 102 deg. and Southern Cross 101deg. The Meteoro-<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">logical Department reported last night:\u2014<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">During the 24 hours ended 8.30 a.m., with the exception of light and scattered thunder showers south of the tropics and Western Australia, and a few light showers on the north coast of New South Wales, the only rain to report occurred in Queensland, where light to moderate amounts were gauged at scattered places over coastal districts and central division. The falls, however, were heavy at a few inland places, Winton registering 1.37. This morning&#8217;s weather chart shows that although a large &#8220;high&#8221; still covers this and the<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">eastern States it is losing energy and drifting eastward. The pressure in South Australia has diminished considerably today under the advance of the low noted this morning centred to the south of<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Albany.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">The further eastward movement of this depression to-morrow will be attended by northerly wind and warm to hot weather in this State.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">The anticyclone at present overlapping the west coast of the continent, however, should bring cooler<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">conditions by Friday.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>https:\/\/trove.nla.gov.au\/newspaper\/article\/59265143?searchTerm=october%20heat&amp;searchLimits= Fine, warm to hot, and practically clear weather prevailed throughout the State on Wednesday, the maximum of 94 deg.
