The heat<\/span> to-day is very great. At 9.30 this morning the thermometer registered 99, and at 2 p.m. it had risen to 108.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A miner named Sydney<\/span> Merewether, a visitor from New Zealand, died from heat<\/span> apoplexy.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A laborer named W. Jones, while working in<\/span> the street, was attacked by the heat,<\/span> and is not expected to recover.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

At Bourke the results have been far more serious, eight deaths having been reported from heat<\/span> apoploxy, four men, one woman, and three children being the victims.<\/div>\n
The temperature yesterday was 113 degrees.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Several deaths and much sickness are reported from other country districts.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The temperature this afternoon was the highest recorded in<\/span> the Sydney <\/span>Observatory since its establishment in <\/span>1859. More than 10 deaths have been caused by the heat<\/span> during yesterday and to-day.<\/div>\n
