A hot wind blowing from the north made the <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"3103\" data-y=\"4962\" data-w=\"84\" data-h=\"29\">heat<\/span> unbearable, and <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"3355\" data-y=\"4962\" data-w=\"84\" data-h=\"29\">in<\/span> many engineering works work had to be suspended. On a number of outdoor jobs and road works the men knocked off from exhaustion.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">At 3 o\u2019clock a storm passed over the city; but only a few points of rain were registered. The<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">highest temperature <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"3182\" data-y=\"5097\" data-w=\"82\" data-h=\"30\">in<\/span> the city to-day was 109.3.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">The previous highest recorded since 1887 was 105.9 on Boxing Day of 1893. Later <span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"3420\" data-y=\"5151\" data-w=\"67\" data-h=\"30\">in<\/span> the afternoon the temperature became slightly cooler.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EXTREME HEAT IN BRISBANE.
