A spell of extreme heat visited the western and northern areas of the State during last week, culminating in temperatures exceeding 110 degrees before there was a return to cooler conditions.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

For some days high temperatures prevailed in the western districts, and the north-west also came under the influence of the hot spell.<\/div>\n
Collarenebri experienced a maximum of 112 degrees, and<\/div>\n
111 degrees, while Bourke reported 110 degrees, and in a number of other districts temperatures exceeding 100 degrees were recorded.<\/div>\n
The hot weather extended also on to the North Coast and in the Hunter and Manning river districts Jerry\u2019s Plains reported 109 degrees and Scone 107.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

During the week-end, however, a cool change spread over the west, and isolated storms have been reported by the Weather Bureau. Wellington, Mudgee, and Maitland reported having experienced storms of some violence, but the maximum temperatures experienced in the west on Saturday were in the seventies and eighties, the highest being 82 degrees. In the north-east of the State the heat wave still held sway, and Clarence Heads reported 105 degrees, while Port Macquarie experienced 97.<\/div>\n
The high temperatures extended into Queensland, where some new records were established. In Brisbane the thermometer went to 106 degrees, which is the highest on record for the month of February.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
