Auguste Bouchayer, scientist and engineer, there were no\u00a0<span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"6453\" data-y=\"5674\" data-w=\"132\" data-h=\"53\">glaciers<\/span>\u00a0in Europe in the Middle Ages.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">In a recent communication to the Dauphine Scientific Society, he submits the conclusion that since the Middle Ages there has been a considerable fall in the maximum summer temperature.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">Consequently winter snows and ice accumulations which were formerly melted in summer are no longer dissipated.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"zone onPage readMode\" data-page-id=\"8944831\" data-x=\"6043\" data-y=\"6010\" data-w=\"1022\" data-h=\"887\" data-rotation=\"-1\">\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Mont Blanc, he points out, is under 16,000 ft. in height, and, as in the thirteenth century the maximum summer temperature was capable of melting snow and ice at a much greater height than that, there could in those times be no eternal snow on its summit.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">Glaciers, he adds, are dependant for their formation and existence on eternal snows; therefore, there can have been no\u00a0<span class=\"highlightedTerm\" data-x=\"6445\" data-y=\"6779\" data-w=\"129\" data-h=\"53\">glaciers<\/span>\u00a0on Mont Blanc in the Middle Ages.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EUROPEAN GLACIERS.
