Web. 30 Oct 2019\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/trove.nla.gov.au\/newspaper\/article\/59271371?searchTerm=october%20heat&amp;searchLimits=#\">https:\/\/trove.nla.gov.au\/newspaper\/article\/59271371?searchTerm=october%20heat&amp;searchLimits=#<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"zone onPage readMode\" data-page-id=\"4563702\" data-x=\"4043\" data-y=\"437\" data-w=\"585\" data-h=\"95\" data-rotation=\"-1\">\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"line\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"zone onPage readMode\" data-page-id=\"4563702\" data-x=\"4083\" data-y=\"624\" data-w=\"513\" data-h=\"132\" data-rotation=\"-1\">\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Very hot weather, with strong northerly winds, prevailed over the greater part of South Australia on Saturday, and the temperature at several places exceeded 100 deg.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"zone onPage readMode\" data-page-id=\"4563702\" data-x=\"4009\" data-y=\"816\" data-w=\"700\" data-h=\"247\" data-rotation=\"-1\">\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">In the city the mercury rose rapidly, and by midday had reached 100.8, thus beating the previous highest for October which occurred in 1859.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">The temperature continued to mount upwards until 1.30 p.m., when the maximum was reached.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">The instrument then read 102.2 deg.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">Towards evening a slight south westerly change set in, and the temperature fell to 71deg. at<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"zone onPage readMode\" data-page-id=\"4563702\" data-x=\"4007\" data-y=\"1065\" data-w=\"698\" data-h=\"515\" data-rotation=\"-1\">\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">9 p.m., and reached a minimum of 59.6 at 3 o&#8217;clock on Sunday morning. Sunday was fairly warm, the thermometer registering 80.8<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"zone onPage readMode\" data-page-id=\"4563702\" data-x=\"4009\" data-y=\"1581\" data-w=\"706\" data-h=\"870\" data-rotation=\"-1\">\n<div class=\"paragraph onPage\">\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Record heat for October was also experienced in Melbourne and Hobart.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">In the former city, the mercury rose to 99 deg., the previous record being 96.1 deg. on<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">October 30, 1885, and in the latter it reached 92 deg., the previous highest being 91.5 deg. in 1845.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">The Meteorological Department reported last night:-<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">The area of low pressure, which brought on it&#8217;s advancing side this heat wave, has passed away to the east. and a &#8220;high&#8221; is now advancing, it&#8217;s centre being situated over the ocean to the south<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">of the Great Bight.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">Accordingly, fine weather, with cool to moderate temperatures may be expected on Monday, with<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">south to east winds.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">Our Sydney correspondent telegraphed on Sunday:-<\/div>\n<div class=\"read clicked\">The weather has been very warm for the past two days throughout the State.<\/div>\n<div class=\"read\">At Sydney to-day a shade temperature of 92.9 deg. was recorded, while<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"line\">\n<div class=\"read\">at Parramatta the reading was 98 deg.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;EARLY HEAT WAVE.&#8221; The Register (Adelaide, SA : 1901 &#8211; 1929) 26 October 1914: 4.
