MELBOURNE, Nov. 5.—A strange explosion and flash like an atom bomb woke thousands of
people and rattled windows with- in a 100-mile radius of Melbourne at 1.30 p.m. to-day.
The official police report described the flash as “a brilliant multi-coloured light which ap-
peared to move across the sky at a height of about 1500 feet, travelling in an east-north-east direction over Port Phillip Bay.”
Eye-witnesses said the explosion seemed to move houses on their foundations.
A man from Glen Iris said: “The whole house seem to move as though a bulldozer was quietly
pushing it”
