MYSTERIOUS WARMING OF ARCTIC CLIMATE 31 May 1947. Temperatures in the Arctic have increased by 10 degrees Fahrenheit since 1900, an “enormous” rise from a scientific standpoint. Waters in the Spitsbergen area in the same period have risen three to five degrees in temperature, and one to 1½ millimetres a year in level.
