NEW YORK, May 24.
A wireless message from Little America says –
This area is undergoing the most remarkable changes in temperature ranging from the bitterest cold to comparative warmth intermixed with violent storms On Sunday night the thermome-
ters showed 62deg below zero at noon.
Yesterday they had risen to 17deg above with warm winds from the north pouring across the frozen Ross Sea bringing grey sheets of drift and snow. Then quiet returned and the temperature steadily dropped.
It is now 11deg below zero and still falling rapidly
“Tunnelling work is progressing well.
The men are digging a tunnel from the old mess hall to the new mess hall, from which another tunnel is being bored to the administration building.”
