HEAT WAVE.
A heat wave has prevailed during the past two or three days, and the effects were severe after the spell of comparatively cool weather.
On Tuesday the maximum shade reading was 98 degrees and yesterday the thermometer recorded 100 degrees.
A westerly wind raised clouds of dust, and conditions generally were very disagreeable.
There is a plague of grasshoppers in several parts of the district, and the pest is laying, everything bare in their march.
