Yesterday the Colonial Secretary (Mr. Brunker) issued a minute to tho Inspector General of Police

in regard to the precautions to be taken in the Bourke and other districts in the case of another heat wave. The minute is as follows –

“The Inspector General of Police will be good enough to issue instructions to the superintendents in

the Bourke and other districts affected by the heat to place themselves in communication with

Government medical officers of these districts in the event of a repetition of the heatwave recently experienced The object is to assist such of the residents of Bourke and other districts as do not posses sufficient means to avail themselves of a change of climate in cases where such a change is considered necessary by the medical officer. It is of course understood that the Government assistance is only to be given in cases of absolute need, and to apply only to the granting of railway passes.”
