ELMORE, Thursday, Jan 23.
A terrific storm passed over the township at about half past six o’clock this evening. The day bad been the hottest of the season the thermometer reaching 113 in the shade during the afternoon.
At the time mentioned a wind storm arose, and the rain poured down in torrents for about 15 minutes.
A large amount of damage has been done the principal sufferers being Mr W,; J, Long of the Victoria Hotel. Two houses belonging to him were almost blown to pieces. Mr. Sam AbDoro was residing in one, and Mrs Long in the other. At Mr. O’Donnell’s wine hall the damage is very extensive, the roof having been blown clean off. About 7 p.m. the storm spent. itself. The damage done to fruit trees is enormous.
