was the hottest for October in eight
years. The highest temperature was
96.7 degrees, registered at 1.55 p.m.
The maximum on October 7, 1928, was
98 degrees.
The highest temperature for October
in 98 years in which records have been
kept was 99.7 degrees on October 19,
1928.
In the 98 years there have been 61
October days when temperatures of 90
degrees and over have been recorded.
Hot conditions were also experienced
in country centres yesterday, the maxi
mum temperature at Bourke being 103
degrees, and 110 at Walgett. At Coona-
barabran, where the maximum tempera-
ture was 92 degrees, dust storms were
experienced.
