The recent heat wave and the influenza epidemic have increased the funerals at the Kattakatta cemetery since December 1 from a daily average of six to an average of 10, the record for the cemetery for one day having been broken during the height of the heat wave.
Of 215 deaths for the five weeks to December 5, 30 were caused by influenza, 80 per cent, were
persons over 50 years, and 60 per cent, over 60 years. Young people escaped the influenza mortality.
