The severest heat experienced in the metropolitan and coastal areas for many years was registered during the last fortnight. On January 28, the hottest day for 27 years was recorded
in Perth, the temperature being 109.4. while high readings were also reported from many inland centres.
A few days of cooler weather then intervened, but the mercury began to ascend again early last Sunday morning, and the maximum reading for the day was 106.2. The following day the glass
dropped very slightly to 106.1, and on Tuesday the maximum was 108.6.
It
was stated by the Commonwealth Weather Burean officer (Mr. E. B. Curlewis) that these three temperatures, with that of February 5 (103) established a record for any four days in the month
of February since 1885.
On Wednesday and Thursday cooler conditions prevailed, and a slight sea breeze made itself felt In the city.
During the second heat wave extreme temperatures were also experienced in other portions
of the State.
