If you think the weather’s not what it used to be 60 years ago, you now have the support
of scientists.
A world-wide survey by meteorologists has shown, according to the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, that there is a current change in world climate.
A C.S.I.R.O. officer said yesterday that there was evidence that during the last 60 years there had been cooler summers and a marked increase in summer rainfall in South Australia and Victoria.
In conjunction with these surveys, he said, experiments were being made by Australian scien-
tists into methods of producing local weather changes by fog dispersal, frost prevention, and
artificial rain stimulation.
At Griffith (N.S.W.) this year scientists would use a large 10 h.p. fan to suck warm air down
to fruit tree level for frost prevention.
Is winter-getting colder? . . .
Well, he hasn’t quite worked that one out yet.
