OCTOBER HEAT WAVE. (1922, October 12). The Maitland Daily Mercury (NSW : 1894 – 1939), p. 3. Retrieved October 19, 2024, from https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/125317578?searchTerm=october%20heat&searchLimits=#
A remarkable climatic change has taken place during the past three days.
Last week some light frosts occurred but since Monday the conditions have been like summer. On Monday the shade reading was 87 degrees, with a drop of five degrees on Tuesday; but yesterday something like a record in the way of heat for October was established.
At an early hour there was promise of a warm day; but all expectations in the matter of heat were exceeded when a strong westerly arrived about 10 a.m.
The mercury soared until 92 degrees had been reached at 2p.m. and in some places the reading was made as high as 94°.
It was the most disagreeable day for several months, owing to the sudden accession of heat and the blinding clouds of dust.
