Spring ended yesterday with the hottest November day ever experienced in Sydney.
Maximum temperature was 103.2 degrees at 11.40 a.m. Twenty minutes later, however the temperature had dropped to 87.4.
Two women died as a result of the heat. The body of one, aged about 55, found in a vacant allotment off Woodburn Street, Redfern, has not yet been identified.
The other, Terese Staunton, 60, died at Bondi. Police believe that she lived in Forbes Street, East Sydney, and are trying to get in touch with her relatives.

A hot west wind in the city reached 40 miles an hour.
Many people on beaches received ambulance treatment for sunburn.

Five minutes after the maximum was recorded, the wind changed, to a strong southerly, causing a sudden drop in the reading. Light rain fell between 1.40 and 2.40 pm, and there was a thunder-shower shortly after 3 p.m.
Other intermittent showers continued into the night.
Eight country centres had temperatures over 100 degrees: Bourke 110, Broken Hill 106, Deniliquin 105, Albury 103, Forbes 102, Dubbo 101, Walgett 101, Wentworth 101.
Cool weather and showers are fore- cast for the city today, with cloudy, unsettled weather over the State.
