Vines Affected By Heat Wave
TANUNDA. March 1
The heat wave has crumpled up hundreds of acres of vines.
In the drier areas many stretches of vine yards are turning yellow, and the
prospects of any payable crop are poor.
The Shiraz vines are in a very bad way; many vineyards will not return 10 cwt. to the acre, and the grapes will be of such poor quality that good quality wine cannot be expected from them.
On lighter soils the Shiraz vines are standing up quite well, as are other varieties. Grenache and Frontenac this year are showing heavy crops, and if they hold out for several weeks should produce good quality wines.
