Two bushfires, which flared up in the Blue Mountains this afternoon, were brought under con-
trol late tonight.
The fires burnt through hundreds of acres of virgin bush country in the Blackheath Medlow Bath district.
Volunteer firefighters are standing by tonight in case of further outbreaks. No private property was burnt by the fires.
Gusty winds whipped up a fire in Pilliga State forest this afternoon. but firefighters are holding
the blaze along a 25 miles front.
ln a survey of stock losses in the recent disastrous fires, graziers in the Wee Waa district estimated sheep losses at about at 5,000. Sheep valued at £30,000 were lost when fire devastated 100,000 acres of grazing land.
Many graziers had had to shoot sheep and cattle they found wandering about paddocks blinded by fire and smoke.
Volunteer firelighters today saved the saw milling township of Boolambayte near Bullahdellah on the North Coast.
Every available man was rushed to the village after a phone appeal asking tor assistance.
In other north-west and North Coast districts fires are still burning, but are well under control.
