According to the Government Statisician, heat waves kill many people.
in the January-March quarter of 1939, when there were severe heat waves, there were 6555 deaths, and in the same period last year 5795.
The State Meteorologist (Mr. Mares) said that the 1940 summer was milder than 1939. Temperatures this summer were below average.
