MELBOURNE, Thursday.
An unusually high temperature was recorded at Melbourne today. At 10.30 this morning the mercury topped the century in the centre of the city and gradually mounted till it reached 107-deg. at 2.30 p.m. It then commenced to recede, but at six o’clock was still over 100-deg. and
two hours later was still abnormally high.
At Melbourne Observatory the highest reading was 105.9- deg. at 3.30 p.m. Today’s reading
was the highest since February, 1919 and never during the past twenty three years has the mercury risen so high during December.
