ADELAIDE, February 27.
Today was the coldest February day Adelaide has ever known.
The maximum temperature was only 60.5, a drop of 44 degrees within four days.
It was 104.3 on Wednesday, and 64.9 yesterday.
The previous coldest February day was on February 9, 1883, when it was 63.8.
Never before has South Australia known a summer of such extremes.
Last month there were two all time heat records, 116.9 on January 10, and 117.7 on January 12.
